Xmas shopping from Bavaria: row of deals for NOTHING PERSONAL

Munich, December 2th, 2009 – Munich based world sales company Bavaria Film International continues sales of its multiple Locarno award winner NOTHING PERSONAL by Urszula Antoniak: MFA picked up German, Polyfilm Austrian, and Filmcoopi Swiss distribution rights. In Spain the feature found its home at Isaan Entertainment and in Portugal at Prisvideo. Further deals were sealed with Vivarto (Poland), SC Clorofilm (Rumania) and Mozinet (Hungary). Furthermore Primer Plano Film picked up all rights for Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.

“It is a truly encouraging development,” says Stefanie Zeitler, Head of Sales, “to see a potentially small arthouse film find homes in so many territories in these difficult times.” Thorsten Ritter, Head of Bavaria Film International adds, “this proves that finding a unique voice and telling a story in such a distinct way as Urszula Antoniak does will always make a difference. The film and the filmmakers deserve this success and I am proud that we could be part of it.”

NOTHING PERSONAL by Urszula Antoniak was honoured with several awards at the 62nd Locarno Film Festival. Besides the Leopard for Best Actress for Lotte Verbeek and the Leopard for the Best First Feature the film received the First Prize of the Youth Jury, the FIPRESCI Prize and CICAE Price of the International Art & Essay Cinema Confederation. Furthermore the Ecumenical Jury honoured NOTHING PERSONAL with a special mention.

NOTHING PERSONAL tells the story of a young travelling woman and an older educated, solitary man closing a deal: food in exchange of work under one condition: no personal contact, no questions. Who will be the first one to break the deal?

Urszula Antoniak’s stunningly assured debut is touching, gentle and playful. But it takes a firm stand when it comes to negotiating individual freedom and the urge to still wanting to be near to somebody - despite all wounds of a past we don’t get to know in detail. An enigmatic beauty and confusion underlies this character study that should leave nobody unmoved.
