Toten vom Karst, Die
No sooner has Trieste homicide inspector Laurenti begun ruminating over the mysterious murder of a delicatessen owner and his wife than he faces another horrendous crime. The only link is the age-old hostility between the two families involved... Trieste's close ties to neighboring Croatia play a key role in this atmospherically dense adaptation of Veit Heinichen's popular crime novel set in the Adriatic port city. ![]() Genre

A suburb of Trieste is jolted by a deafening explosion in the middle of the night: a bomb has gone off, killing young delicatessen owner Gubian and his pregnant wife. Shortly thereafter, local fisherman Marasi is found brutally murdered close to the carso cliffs near Trieste. For Inspector Laurenti, the cases are clear-cut, unrelated, and without any apparent motives. Until a grieving woman suddenly brings everything into focus: Marasi's widow accuses Antonio Gubian, the father of the bombing victim, of having killed her husband. Extending his investigations to neighboring Croatia, Laurenti uncovers a long-festering hostility between the Gubians and the Marasis. He also makes a surprising discovery: Marasi's uncooperative daughter is running a cocaine smuggling ring - and the drugs are smuggled onto her father's boat at sea from none other than Antonio Gubian…
